The Hypocrisy of It AllBy Charlie McCormick | October 28th, 2010 | Category: 2010 Campaign, Campaign Journal 2010 | Comments Off
I went to the Mayor & Council meeting last night and did my little speech about all the information you can find on CharlieForOakland.com. It seems Don Burns was the only one who thought it was nice to see me. He made a little joke about me not mentioning my position on the ballot, and gets shushed by Mayor Szabo about how campaigning here is in appropriate.
Then the Mayor takes out his other face, and along with Frank DiPentima and the highly paid CFO, begin campaigning for their candidates. They hold an extended conversation on how the numbers between towns can’t be compared and that people can’t trust what they read. Only the mayor and council know the truth, only the mayor and council can explain to you that when Oakland spends $900,000 a year more on police than Wyckoff, it’s not what it seems. Only the Mayor and council can explain why we spend $1,000,000 more on health benefits then FL & Wyckoff. Only the Mayor and council can say why we spend $60,000 a year more on phones than FL & Wyckoff….and we all know why we spend $100,000 a year more on the legal fees than FL & Wyckoff.
Some of the explanations offered to explain away these numbers were difficult to follow, and perhaps if time had allowed they could have provided some visual aids. Perhaps there’s a physical contortionist that could have assisted.
The Mayor and Council are the only people in town who have the answers, so they invited people to just email them and they will answer. With a population of over 12,000 people, they must have some no-show government jobs in order to handle that.
After saying that numbers lie, they continued their campaigning at the meeting trying to play catch up with my proposal for a Government Access Portal. They are going to be putting the budget online…..yippee, welcome to the 1990s.
It was really appalling to see this desperate campaign attempt to usurp one of my main proposals by saying they want to develop a “snazzy” new website.
Then I had to listen to the blatant hypocrisy of Mayor Szabo pleading for volunteers…… after I offered to build the town a free new website and was shut out…..after I offered to help with the chamber of commerce and was shut out….they promised they would shut me out unless I turned The Oakland Journal over to the Communications Commission, and they have lived up to that promise.
Listen to this man below, he’s not talking politics, he’s talking philosophy.
