Campaign Journal 2010

A Funny Story

So, I was out on the corner across from Ponds Church this afternoon……After awhile, this young kid shows up wearing make-up – I assume for Halloween – and stands to the side of us holding a sign and pointing at me…

The Hypocrisy of It All

It’s been a long time since I made a journal entry, but there’s no free time between trying to work and campaign on no budget. I went to the Mayor & Council meeting last night and did my little speech about all the information you can find on CharlieForOakland.com. It seems Don Burns was the [...]

The Tribulations of a Lincoln Mask

Yesterday, I was Abraham Lincoln, and stood on the corner of Manito and Mohegan with my campaign sign. I got enough honks and waves, but the best was a bunch of kids who came running down the hill wanting to pose with me for photographs; I got a similar response on the corner of Dogwood [...]

Candidates Everywhere, Debates Nowhere

I heard back from the IHHS administration and they are,”not interested in hosting a debate of this kind for several reasons”. Opponent Websites

Must Be The Heat

This weekend we got a treat seeing The Record cover the Oakland campaign…..We also got treated to some weird emails from one of my opponents

Municipal Court Mediation

A municipal mediation program for Oakland could potentially reduce local court costs, and provide resolutions for a variety of offenses and complaints using local, trained volunteers.

Debates

The Ramapo River Reserve has been the only sponsor of debates amongst the candidates, first in their clubhouse and then moving to town hall to accommodate more people. But I strongly believe the community would be better served with additional debates, especially with the fiscal crisis that has evolved….click on the title to read more

The Amish DPW Connection

Been busy working for a living, and taking some time to review the FLOW budgets and compare performance there. That article, Raising Red Flags, is worth a look. But wanted to get down some thoughts on the Amish, who recently did some work for an Oakland resident that attracted some media attention. They built a [...]

A Beautiful Thing

I came across this website and for a few, fleeting seconds thought it might be an official website of the town – because that would be amazing. But it’s still one of the best websites I’ve seen. It ain’t pretty, very plain, but the group running it is doing some beautiful things. Like on this [...]
